What is The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order?
Government legislation meant that in 2006 each and every business will need to carry out a Fire Safety Risk Assessment and any business with 5 or more employees will need to formally record the findings, using an approved document.
Statement Issued by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister:
“As part of the Government's commitment to reduce death, injury and damage caused by fire, the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister has reviewed current fire safety law; and is making a number of changes through the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order (RRFSO)”.
ALL OF OUR FIRE RISK ASSESSMENTS ARE NOW CARRIED OUT IN ACCORDANCE WITH PAS 79:2007, THE APPROVED INSURANCE COMPANIES & FIRE OFFICERS DOCUMENT
What Do We Do?
For a set fee, we would attend site & carry out a full survey of your premises.
We would then go back, type out the report & send it to you enclosing photographic evidence of any risks found along with any recommendations for improvement. It should be noted however that once the report is sent out any recommendations do become legal obligation from your perspective & therefore you must comply with the recommendations made within it by the given dates.
It is important to note at this point with the new Act, there will of course be those people out there selling you services for £75.00 & promising you that everything will be alright. You can also download these “assessments”, but how many people are “Competent” or “Responsible”. It is important to remember that you really do need a competently trained person to carry out the assessment on your behalf & to highlight the areas of potential risk & to help you overcome them by the best means possible.
This piece of reform will effect nearly 80% of businesses in the UK, including many hoteliers who have hidden behind their “fire certificates” for years. The current Fire Officers will become “Assessors” who will be able to ask for your assessment & if you haven’t got one they have the power to serve you with an enforcement notice, fine you upto £15,000.00, close your business or even put you in prison for upto 2 years. This is why it is so important that you have a reputable company in to do the assessment for you.
